The African American Project:
Dignity, Despair, Determination, Destiny

A chronological historic depiction of the African-American experience expressed in a musical format. 

Dignity
Dignity, celebrates the regal beauty, strength, cooperation and love of the people and the land, depicted through poetry, song and dance with Video.



Despair
Despair, explores the sadness, hardship, struggle, fear and mistreatment of enslaved people. Yet holding on to hope and faith. Depicted through acting, song, dance and movement.


Determination
Determination, shows how a people were demanding and consistent in bringing change socially, economically, racially, and culturally. Bringing forth their excellence, integrity, diverse careers and talents. Expressed through dance, acting and video.
Destiny
Destiny, portrays the wonderful, powerful and positive future of our African-American race. Expressed in Step movement and Video.




Calling Dancers,  Singers, and Actors, Ages 10-16...

We are currently holding video auditions for Professional and Pre-professional Dancers, Actors, and/or Singers, ages 10-16 to participate in the special production "The African American Project: Dignity, Despair, Determination, Destiny". This powerful musical is written, directed and choreographed by Michelle Benjamin, a multi-dimensional artist and Artistic Director of The Pamela D. Franklin Cultural Center for the Performing Arts.

To audition, get your parent/guardian's permission and complete the audition form. , and upload a video that clearly showcases your acting, singing, or dancing skills. Your parent/guardian is required to review and sign your completed audition form. You are welcome to showcase more than one skill. Be sure to keep your audition video two (2) minutes of less. Serious Artists will be selected to participate.
